If you receive a Juror Summons, you must show up at court on the date printed in the Summons. You will join other people who have been summoned for jury duty. The court will randomly select names from the people in your group. If your name is called, you will be asked to sit in the jury box. The attorneys in the case, and sometimes the judge, will ask you questions. When you have answered all of the questions, you will either be chosen to sit on the jury or be excused. This process usually takes one day, but may take longer in some cases.

You are not required to serve on a federal court jury within a two-year time span. If you are selected before the two years has elapsed, you may request an excuse based on your prior service (i.e. selected to report; selected for a trial or grand jury service) with the U.S. District Court. You can still be summoned for jury duty in state and municipal courts, as those systems are separately and independently organized and managed by the state and local government entities.

Receiving a summons for jury duty does not mean that you will actually serve on a jury. However, if you are qualified to serve and you do not ask to be excused or exempted, you will be able to participate in the jury selection process which may take only a day or a fraction of a day to complete. The process begins as groups of prospective jurors, usually numbering fifty to sixty in district courts, are assembled in a courtroom with the judge, the lawyers, and usually the parties of a particular case. Lawyers then conduct what is called voir dire (which means to speak the truth), which allows the lawyers and the judge to have the opportunity to ask each prospective juror a series of questions. While the lawyers are aware of your answers to the questionnaire that you filled out earlier, the lawyers and the judge may still ask you some of the same questions and some additional questions to ensure that you are indeed qualified to serve, and that you are indeed able to perform your civic duty in a fair and impartial manner. After questioning the prospective jurors, the lawyers and the parties they represent will be given the opportunity to make any challenges for cause and peremptory challenges to individual prospective jurors (see definitions). After all challenges are utilized, a jury with one to four alternates is impaneled to hear the evidence in the case.

Listen carefully and follow the instructions given by court personnel and the judge. With your cooperation and attention to detail, the jury selection process may run smoother and be completed faster.

However, the majority, usually more than two-thirds, of all summoned jurors are NOT actually selected for service, therefore, their duty ends after a short time with the completion of the jury selection process. For those jurors who are selected to serve in a jury panel, the judge and the attorneys may be able to estimate how long that particular trial will last.

So, I finally got around to watching this.. and I don't know why I watched the whole series... It was, in a word, a mess.I don't understand the need for the first challenge, it didn't give the winner anything. The hosts were relegated to set dressing that talked. I thought both were useless. The challenges were interesting and I like the idea of re-creating snacks. I liked the set, it was wonky and lighthearted. I also liked most of the contestants. The show could have worked and should have worked, it just didn't. 2ff7e9595c
